Don’t let families like Laura’s be broken apart
Laura* hit rock bottom the day her house burned to the ground. Already facing family violence and financial stress, this devastating event made everything worse.
She was separated from her three sons—Liam, Ryan and Mason—for 17 weeks. It was a nightmare come true.
“It was the scariest day of my life,” Laura says. “I thought they were going to get taken completely away from me permanently… I just didn’t want to lose my kids forever.”
When her boys returned home, they were frightened and withdrawn. At every knock on the door, they hid under blankets, terrified they’d be taken again.
This was a family at breaking point.
But with the help of generous people like you, Laura and her children began to heal from trauma and rebuild their lives with MacKillop Family Services.
With practical help and parenting support, they stabilised. The boys’ trust and Laura’s confidence slowly returned.
Today, her family has the support they need to build a life together.
